• Ram is recalling 2021 model trucks equipped with the 5.7-liter Hemi engine and mild-hybrid eTorque system.
  • Reports indicate that the powertrain control module can cause an over-rich condition in the cylinders, which can lead to the truck stalling.
  • Ram plans on notifying dealers and customers on June 2, 2023.

If the 5.7-liter Hemi eTorque in your 2021 Ram 1500 is randomly stalling, you’re not alone. Ram is recalling 131,700 of these trucks because the powertrain control module could cause a situation where there’s an incorrect fuel mixture. In certain situations, this can cause the truck to stall, which is obviously not ideal.

According to NHTSA, the plan for the repair is a simple update of the powertrain control module. Of course, this will be free of charge for affected customers when the time comes for the recall to start hitting service departments. Ram plans to notify affected customers and its dealers of this recall on June 2, 2023.

If you’re wondering if anyone has reported this problem to Ram, the NHTSA report shines some light on the situation. According to the recall report, there have been 206 customer records and 636 warranty claims that were potentially related to the issue. There were also 53 field reports and one crash that were similarly associated with the problem. Fortunately, the report notes there were zero injuries.

If you think your Ram falls under this recall, you can check the NHTSA or Mopar’s recall tool to verify. Of course, you can also contact your local dealer to see for certain. There’s no word on when this recall will be available, but you can assume that it probably kick off after the company notifies customers and dealers this June.
