With the demand for EVs on the rise, the electric SUV market is blossoming. In a segment where there were once no choice, there are now many, giving buyers looking for an all-electric experience plenty to choose from. These are our favorite electric SUVs on sale in 2023 and 2024, ranked from cheapest to most expensive.

1

2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

2023 chevrolet bolt euv
Chevrolet

Price: $28,795
EPA-rated range: Up to 247 miles

The Chevrolet Bolt EUV holds the title for cheapest electric SUV you can buy right now. It represents a tremendous value, as it can also deliver nearly 250 miles of range per charge, more than cars that are five figures more expensive.

That's thanks to a single front-mounted electric motor and a 65-kWh battery pack making a total of 200 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 sprint of 6.8 seconds isn't wildly quick, but does it really matter when you're getting that much range out of the battery?

The Bolt is getting a big refresh next year

2023 Hyundai Kona Electric

Hyundai

Price: $34,885
EPA-rated range: Up to 258 miles

The Hyundai Kona Electric is a solid budget-friendly choice for those who need space and want to go electric. You get over 250 miles of range for under $35,000 and a strong 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, which is tough to beat. What you can't get is all-wheel-drive, which is a shame.

The Kona Electric makes 201 hp courtesy of a single front-mounted electric motor and a 64-kWh battery pack, enough to launch the grille-less SUV to 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds.

2023 Volkswagen ID.4

Volkswagen

Price: $40,290
EPA-rated range: Up to 275 miles

If you can get past the frumpy looks and the oftentimes infuriating interior, the Volkswagen ID.4 is a solid choice for commuters and new families alike.

The base rear-drive ID.4 can deliver over 200 miles per charge as standard, though you can opt for the bigger battery and all-wheel-drive to unlock the full 275 miles, if your commute is a bit longer. Do that, and you'll have an SUV that can sprint to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds.

2023 Kia Niro EV

Kia

Price: $40,875
EPA-rated range: Up to 253 miles

Want everyone to know you're driving a funky, futuristic electric vehicle? Consider the Kia Niro EV. Its unique fascia and two-tone exterior are eye-catchers in a world of boring econoboxes, and its EPA-rated range isn't bad either, at over 253 miles.

Power comes courtesy of a 201-horse, 188-lb-ft electric motor up front, supplied by a liquid-cooled lithium-ion 64.8-kWh battery pack. It's enough for a respectable 6.7-second sprint to 60 mph.

2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5

hyundai ioniq 5
Hyundai

Price: $43,000 (est.)
EPA-rated range: Up to 303 miles

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the complete package. Clever design means that while it looks like a hatchback in photos, it's actually sized closer to an SUV, without giving up on the sleek proportions that make it look so good.

Even better is how the Ioniq 5 drives. Smooth, quick, and overly pleasant, it's everything you could possibly want in a commuter EV. The cabin is easy to understand and plenty spacious, too. With up to 320 hp on tap, you'll never be wanting for more power while merging onto the highway.

We're particularly interested in the 641-hp Ioniq 5 N

2023 Toyota bZ4X

2023 toyota bz4x limited in supersonic red
toyota

Price: $43,350
EPA-rated range: Up to 252 miles

The bZ4X is Toyota's first real electric offering, and while the SUV can't exactly keep up with competitors when it comes to range, it makes up for it with funky, interesting looks and optional all-wheel-drive.

We'd only recommend opting for all-wheel-drive if range isn't too much of a concern for you, as it cuts about 30 miles off the top of the maximum distance per charge. Opting for AWD also gets you 248 lb-ft of torque, enough for a 6.3-second 0-60 sprint.

2023 Kia EV6

Kia

Price: $43,925
EPA-rated range: Up to 310 miles

The Kia EV6 is a handsome, sporty alternative to the Tesla Model Y that can achieve up to 310 miles between charges when you pick the larger battery pack.

If the cool looks won't win you over, maybe the GT trim will. New for 2023, it delivers a mighty impressive 576 hp thanks to dual motors and a 77.4-kWh battery. That's enough for a 0-60 time of just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 161 mph. There's also a drift mode, which is nice.

2023 Nissan Ariya

Nissan

Price: $44,525
EPA-rated range: Up to 304 miles

The Ariya is Nissan's second-ever electric vehicle, joining the longstanding Leaf hatchback as a bigger, more practical offering for customers seeking more range and space.

There are two battery sizes offered: 63 or 87 kWh. We suggest going for the bigger battery combined with Nissan's e-4ORCE two-motor all-wheel-drive system, which delivers 389 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. It allows for a sports car-like sprint to 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds.

2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford

Price: $45,000 (est.)
EPA-rated range: Up to 310 miles

The Ford Mustang Mach-E wears the iconic pony badge, but it's safe to say this is far from a traditional Mustang. Still, we can't fault its pleasant on-road mannerisms and handsome looks, especially compared to the less exciting competition.

If speed is your thing, the high-performance GT trim is the Mach-E to get. It makes a total of 480 hp and 634 lb-ft of torque thanks to two electric motors, able to deliver a 0-60 time of just 3.7 seconds.

2023 Subaru Solterra

2023 subaru solterraView Photos
Subaru

Price: $46,220
EPA-rated range: Up to 228 miles

The Subaru Solterra and the Toyota bZ4X are essentially the same car underneath. The reason the Solterra's so much more expensive is because it comes with standard with all-wheel-drive, as with most other Subarus. That also means a far lower maximum range.

If range is important for you and you absolutely must have the Subaru version, we suggest opting for the base 18-inch wheels rather than the optional 20s. Go for the bigger rims, and you range is cut to just 222 miles.

2023 Mazda MX-30

2023 mazda mx 30View Photos
Mazda

Price: $34,695
EPA-rated range: Up to 100 miles

The Mazda MX-30 is a small SUV injected with the company's typical fun-to-drive attitude, paired to a smart design that incorporates a set of funky backwards-hinged rear doors.

With an estimated range of just 100 miles, the Mazda MX-30 can't hold a candle to its competition. And with just 143 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque on deck from a single electric motor, it's not very quick, either. But if you have a tight commute, the MX-30 could be the ultimate short-range daily driver.

The MX-30 has been discontinued for the U.S. after 2023
