Kicking off Car Week the right way, the folks at Mercedes-AMG are launching a California-inspired version of the SL 63. Officially dubbed the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Manufaktur Big Sur, this special edition is set apart from the rest of the SL 63 lineup by a wild orange finish and a collection of specifically selected accouterment.
The paint job goes by the name orange flame metallic, and it’s applied on the special Manufaktur production line, which Mercedes notes is separate from the standard production efforts. The company also will manually apply the finish to the SL 63 Big Sur’s front and rear bumpers, to have the best control over the finish quality.
Joining that special paint is black brake calipers, a black soft top, and 21-inch AMG forged cross-spoke wheels. This Big Sur will also get an AMG emblem placed above the SL 63’s grille, which the company notes is a first for the SL line of cars.
There’s also orange contrast stitching throughout the interior to help draw even more attention to the special color.
Of course, this is still the SL 63 underneath the special finish. That means under the long hood is a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that sends 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
From there, power hits the 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system to help all four tires rocket this convertible to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
If you have a private track, Mercedes says this SL 63’s speedometer will stop climbing at 196 mph.
Unfortunately, Mercedes-AMG hasn’t told us how much this special SL 63 will cost. Though, you can assume it won’t be less than the SL 63’s $183,000 base price.
Quantity also isn’t mentioned, but it’s probably safe to assume you won’t see too many of these in your local supermarket’s parking lot.
