KONAMI renews its partnership with FC Barcelona as the club’s official Video Gaming Partner

Good news for eFootball fans!

Popular football club FC Barcelona and KONAMI have announced the extension of their partnership for multiple upcoming seasons. This extension solidifies KONAMI’s position as both the Global Partner and Official Video Gaming Partner of five-time European champions and also allows the continuation of the FC Barcelona licensed name and attributes in KONAMI’s football titles, particularly the eFootball franchise.

This partnership will open doors to new Barca Legends in the eFootball series

The deal initially commenced in 2016 and even though it was about to expire, the extension will come as a huge plus for KONAMI. Under this renewed agreement, KONAMI will enjoy various privileges, including access to the senior squad of FC Barcelona, scanned player faces, their licensed kits, and logos, while also enabling the collection of materials for the development of their popular video games.

We will also get the licensed Camp Nou in the game, although for mobile there isn’t a full stadium. The company will also establish synergies with the Barça Legends, who are set to play a pivotal role as prominent ambassadors within this partnership. Hence, due to this, more Barcelona legends might be featured in KONAMI games, especially eFootball 2024, which is set for a new season this September.

Juli Guiu, vice-president of the FC Barcelona Marketing Area expressed his satisfaction with the renewal: “We are very pleased to renew our agreement with KONAMI, a company that over the years has always demonstrated its commitment to FC Barcelona. KONAMI is a benchmark in the video game sector and will help us to forge new synergies with young audiences and to continue to explore possibilities in the realm of digital entertainment, a key sector for the expansion of our brand in the coming years.”

Naoki Morita, Konami Digital Entertainment B.V.’s European President stated: “It is very exciting to be announcing an extension to such a successful partnership. FC Barcelona are truly one of giants of world football, we are proud to have them as part of the eFootball series now and for the next few years thanks to this renewal. To have secured a long-term future that will include a multitude of commercial, image, and esports rights and activations is fantastic for KONAMI and for the eFootball series as we keep evolving our product to bring the best user experience possible”.

This stops the speculation of Camp Nou returning to EA Sports FC

Rumors once swirled about a potential reunion between Electronic Arts and FC Barcelona as the latter’s deal with KONAMI was on the brink of expiry. Speculations ran wild that FC Barcelona had given its nod to a fresh deal with EA as excitement brewed among fans who eagerly anticipated reliving the glory days of playing in the iconic Camp Nou in EA Sports FC.

However, despite the hot speculation, it appears that this fanciful reunion between FC Barcelona and EA has not materialized as rumored. With KONAMI’s extension of the deal, it looks like FC Barcelona being featured as a fully licensed club in EA Sports FC will remain a dream for a while. Here’s to hoping that this renewed partnership between FC Barcelona and KONAMI will contribute more to the eFootball franchise for years to come.
