Mobile Legends Baxia Guide: Best Build, Emblem, and Gameplay Tips

Rocks, need no protection from the rain

Another of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s tanks, the Mystic Tortoise, Baxia, is a key hero when playing against regen-dependent heroes such as Esmeralda, Yu Zhong, Uranus, etc. His skills are focused on early-game domination and playing aggressively right from the start, putting less emphasis on protecting his Jungler and more on disturbing the enemy Jungler. However, he is quite a difficult Tank to master, as he has a limited number of Crowd Control (CC) skills, so players need to be wary of when and how to use them. This guide will look at the best emblem setup, item build, and some basic tips on how to play Baxia to his fullest potential in Mobile Legends.

We have previously discussed how to master playing with other Mobile Legends heroes like MiyaLing, WanwanPharsaCarmillaSilvanna, HayabusaAtlasLuo YiYu Zhong, Aurora, Khaleed, Freya, Khufra, X.Borg, Lesley, Tigreal, Hylos, Valir, Cecilion, Lylia, Uranus, Barats, Odette, Angela, Vale, Rafaela, Hanzo, Esmeralda, Brody, Lapu-Lapu, Nana, Benedetta, Hilda, Mathilda, Selena, Miya, Jawhead, Chou, Paquito, Thamuz, Lunox, Yi Sun-Shin, Yve, Gatotkaca, Karrie, Ruby, Beatrix, Gloo, and Argus. So make sure to check these hero guides as well. For now, let’s focus on Baxia.

Skill analysis

Baxia has a basic skill line-up, with one passive and three active skills. As mentioned above, Baxia’s skills are better used offensively to disrupt the enemy rotation rather than defensively to cover the Jungler and Support. With high mobility, Baxia is able to rotate to the side lanes easily, providing needed support to offlaners. In this Baxia guide, let’s see what are his abilities in Mobile Legends, and when you can use which skill to get the best out of him.

Passive – Baxia Mark

passive

Baxia activates the Baxia Mark permanently, reducing the final damage received by 25%. At the same time, Baxia will reduce the regen effect of enemies hit by his skills by 30% for 4s. With this passive, Baxia is an immediate counter to regen-dependent heroes. This makes Baxia a large threat right from the start, as enemies will have less effective regen abilities, including the base regeneration skill all heroes have, as well as regen supports like Estes and Rafaela. This passive allows Baxia and his teammates to have a greater chance at winning early trades and dominate lanes.

Skill 1 – Baxia-Shield Unity

skill 1

Baxia retracts himself into his shield and accelerates forward. When hitting an enemy unit, he will deal 300/320/340/360/380/400 (+60% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to it and nearby enemies, stunning the target for 0.8s and slightly knocking other nearby enemies back.

During the process of accelerating forward, use this skill again to launch Baxia upward so that he can cross obstacles and enemy minions. When leaping up, if there is an enemy hero under Baxia, he will strike to this hero, dealing 375/400/425/450/475/500 (+75% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to this hero and nearby enemies, stunning the hit target for 1s, and slightly knocking other nearby enemy targets back.

This skill is Baxia’s source of mobility which enables him to roam around the map quickly. Similar to Johnson, Baxia will be transformed into a mobile vehicle that cannot be stopped until he crashes into an enemy unit or the timer runs out. When using this skill, players should be careful not to run too deep into enemy territory and pay attention to the timer, so they don’t end up trapped and getting ambushed by the enemy.

Skill 2 – Shield of Spirit

skill 2

Baxia throws his shield forward that will disappear upon hitting an enemy hero or creeps, dealing Magic Damage equal to 125/150/175/200/225/250 (+120% Total Magic Power) (+6% of the target’s Max HP) to the target and minions on the path. Meanwhile, marks them for 5s and slows them down for 50% for 1s. This skill can be used again in a short time. If the shield hits a creep or enemy hero, the CD will be reduced by 86%.

This skill is Baxia’s main source of damage and is known for its ability to be repeatedly cast over and over again as long as it hits an enemy hero or neutral creep. This skill cannot be refreshed if it hits only a minion. With an added slow and synergy with his Passive, aiming Shield of Spirit to hit enemies will slow them and hamper regen effects, enabling your Jungler or offlaner to swoop in for easy kills.

Skill 3 – Tortoise’s Puissance

skill 3

Baxia deploys a frontal shield and dashes forward, increasing his Movement Speed by 30%, creating a lava path along the way he dashes, dealing 40/50/60 (+30% Total Magic Power) Magic Damage to enemies on the path per 0.5s. All effects last for 10/12/14 seconds. During the dash, the damage reduction effect from Baxia Mark will be boosted by 140%.

At the core of Baxia’s team fight ability is his Ultimate, Tortoise’s Puissance. This Ultimate will lay down a path of a lava that lasts for a relatively long time and will deal damage over time. His tankiness is also buffed during this period and will let him tank more damage to protect his teammates. This skill can be used in conjunction with Skill 1, to improve his mobility and move around the team fight quicker.

Skill-up method for Baxia

As for skill upgrade, prioritize Skill 2, as it is his main source of damage and will lower cooldown and increase damage as it is leveled. Upgrade his Ultimate when available, and Skill 1 last.

Best Emblem Set and Spells for Baxia in Mobile Legends

Emblem Set

There are two optimal ways to play Baxia, as an offlaner and as a Tank. His main role is a Tank, but some players choose to play him in the side lane as an offlaner too to counter regen fighters such as Yu Zhong, Uranus, and Lapu-Lapu. Below are the suggested emblem setups in our guide to play Baxia both as an offlaner and a Tank in Mobile Legends.

Mobile Legends Baxia Guide

For both offlaner and as Tank, using the Tank emblem is effective. In the first tier, you may choose any of the three to buff HP, Physical Defense, or Magical Defense to your own preference. In the second tier, it is best to take Inspire +3 to reduce the cooldown time of your skills, so that you can be more active and roam quicker around the map. As for the third tier, Concussive Blast works best as Baxia will need more time to clear minion waves. This will also provide an added damage during fights that are scaled on HP, which is perfect for a high HP hero like Baxia.

Spells

Recommended spells for Baxia are Revitalize or Execute. Tank Baxia should take Revitalize as a way of healing in the battleground without recalling to base, and offlaner Baxia should take Execute to secure kills if Skill 2 is on cooldown.

Best Builds for Baxia in Mobile Legends

Similar to the emblem setups, there are a few recommended builds in our Mobile Legends Baxia guide which you can take depending on how you play him. For tank builds, Baxia will concentrate on building HP-based items and Area of Effect (AoE) passive items. A cursed Helm is a good option here because it has a very high HP stat (+1200 HP), which will work very nicely with Shield of Spirit and Concussive Blast. In addition, it provides an AoE Magic Damage effect that scales with HP as well.  It is also quite cheap, priced at 1760 gold, so it will be easy to obtain in the first 5-7 minutes of the game. Antique Cuirass is good as well for tank builds because of the high HP stat and passive HP regen, which Baxia needs as he has almost no sustainability from his skills.

Other options for Baxia will depend on the enemy lineup, so in preparation for Physical and Magical based teams, Baxia can build different items respectively. Brute Force Breastplate and Dominance Ice are good to build against Physical Junglers like Lancelot, Claude, or Granger. Oracle and Athena’s Shield are good to build against Magical Junglers like Gusion, Harley, or Karina. Immortality as the last item is also good to build, as it can give you a second life to do more damage or escape enemies.

For the offlane build, it is recommended to build Demon Shoes over other Boots, as you will be spamming your Skill 2 a lot to trade damage with the enemy offlaner. Glowing Wand also provides a slight HP buff, and Necklace of Durance can increase your anti-regen abilities. Calamity Reaper will combo nicely with the Skill 2 spam, and the last 2 items can be tankier items of your choice. Queen’s Wings is a good option as it provides Damage Reduction, which can add to Baxia’s passive damage reduction and during his Ultimate. Immortality is also good to build as the last item if you are offlaning.

Mobile Legends Baxia Gameplay Tips

In order to play Baxia effectively, it is vital to have a strong early game and dominate early. According to his gameplay, we can break it down into three phases. Our Mobile Legends Baxia guide includes the perfect game plan for the early, mid, and late game in the game. However, a player must need a good understanding of the map to bring the best out of any hero. Baxia’s damage will fall off later in the game, so use it often in the early game to poke enemies and disrupt the enemy Jungler. In the late game, you will switch to a more defensive role, initiating fights where you have the numbers advantage and giving CC effects to incoming enemies targeting your Jungler.

Early Game

The early game is the most important part of the game for Baxia. As a Tank, take Skill 1 once you enter the game to unlock Baxia-Shield Unity first so you can reach the river first to secure a bush. Although you will compensate for some damage, you should leave this to your Support, so they can quickly clear the first minion wave and reach level 2. Make sure to stay near your Jungler so they can secure either the purple or orange buffs first. After your Jungler is ready to gank, you can communicate to either the top lane or bottom lane that you will initiate ganks. Be sure to gank lanes often to win all 3 lanes.

Alternatively, you may choose to play more aggressively, and invade the enemy jungle. If the enemy Jungler is a Marksman or has a weak early game, you may instead choose to do this instead of helping your Jungler. If you manage to slow down their rotation, this will enable your Jungler to get farmed quicker so you can initiate ganks first before the enemy team can back up the offlaners.

You should always take Skill 2 first before Skill 1 if you are playing Baxia in the side lane. You will not need to roam as often if you are in the side lane, so focus on clearing your minion waves and trade blows with the enemy offlaner. Be sure to aim your Skill 2 directly at the enemy hero, so the cooldown can be refreshed.  When you reach Level 2, you can activate a small combo to gain an advantage in the battle.

Skill 1 + Skill 2 + Basic Attack.

You can continue using Skill 2 + Basic Attack if the previous Skill 2 hit an enemy hero or Jungle creep.

Mid Game

As a Tank, the middle game is where you will be the most active in the game. Baxia will need to be constantly roaming around the map, checking bushes to secure areas of the map to avoid being ambushed. By this point, your skills will be semi-maxed and you can do a decent amount of damage, so take advantage of it and initiate fights with your Jungler and Support. Once you kill the target enemy, it is better to retreat and take the win, because Baxia cannot sustain in fights for a long time. Unless your Jungler still has skills or you can sustain with Revitalize, it is better to regroup and set up another ambush.

As a Fighter, you should start roaming to the Mid Lane after clearing your minion wave. Use Skill 1 to rotate faster to provide backup to your Jungler and Tank during ganks and fights. Be sure to rotate back to your lane to clear the minion wave, and don’t let the enemy offlaner take down your turret, because Baxia is not as good at playing defensively than offensively. With your Ultimate, you can use the following combo for your own betterment.

Skill 1 + Ultimate + Skill 1 → Crash → Skill 2 + Basic Attack + Skill 2 (if the first one hit) + Basic Attack

Late game

Once the game has passed 15 minutes, it can be considered as entering a late game. In this period of the game as a Tank, Baxia’s damage will not be as scary as it was at the start, so you should focus on securing blind areas of the map and being aware of the positions of your Jungler and the enemy, making sure that there is a minimal chance that your Jungler will be ambushed. Baxia is very tanky in the late game but has no sustain other than Revitalize, so be sure to initiate fights with good timing, and not to set up a fight if you or your teammates are in low health.

Baxia using his skill 1

As a Fighter, you should be pushing the last few turrets in the lanes and applying pressure on the enemy heroes by staying in bushes and poking them. Using the Fighter build, you will deal a significant amount of damage but you will be quite squishy, so wait for your Tank or a tankier Fighter to initiate the fight, then jump in straight for the backline and take out either their Support or their Jungler. Use Skill 1 to jump over walls and skid around minions and aim directly for the squishy enemies. After performing your combo, use Skill 1 again to retreat and go back to clearing waves and pushing lanes.

Final thoughts

Both as a Tank and a Fighter, Baxia excels at providing the Mid Laners with timely ganks and frequent rotations with Skill 1. With his ever-refreshing Skill 2, he can do an insane amount of damage that is only limited to his Mana pool. His Passive and Ultimate make him take reduced amounts of damage and will reduce the enemy’s regen effects, so be sure to join all fights you can to put more pressure on the enemy heroes.

Baxia’s key weakness is in his sustainability, so if you are low on health, make sure you recall and heal up first before joining in the next fight. These tips will surely help you to guide easy wins with Baxia in Mobile Legends. You can also refer to our latest tier list to know more about the revamped meta heroes in this current season.
