Autoweek

Regardless of your personal sect of automotive enthusiasm, Monterey Car Week is a magical endeavor, with just about anything and everything you didn't even know you needed to see. But it's not exactly the most accessible event, with tickets for the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance starting at $1000. That's not including the surge-priced motels and California gas prices, but, hey, at least In-N-Out Burger has stayed roughly the same price.

Or maybe you're the kind of person saving their money to bid on these one-of-a-kind cars. Whatever the case may be, just because you can't go to Monterey doesn't mean you should miss out. Thanks to the internet and the prevalence of online auctions, even those looking for their next collectible can cash out. And Bring a Trailer is doing its part in advance by highlighting some of the coolest cars to go up on auction this week.

"This year marks the fourth annual auction and this year's collection comprises 20 cars, primarily roadsters, sports cars, and grand tourers of European origin from 1956-2016," a spokesperson for Bring a Trailer said, and this year's offering looks pristine as ever. As such, here are our 10 favorite models up for auction at Bring a Trailer's Monterey Virtual Auction event.

It's hard not to love an Alfa Romeo Giulietta in red. It's as quintessential as it gets, and this one is nearly in show-ready condition, save for a few paint bubbles. Even so, it retains the old-school wooden steering wheel and a five-speed manual transmission complete with a wooden shift knob.

Powered by a 1.6-liter twin-cam inline-four, this example has allegedly only traveled 1000 miles in its 63 years on Earth, though its total mileage is unknown. Either way, someone else should tach on some more, if you ask me.

Following in the footsteps of an Italian spider and its blood-red exterior, the Austin-Healey appears much more civilized. But don't be fooled by its cover, as the 2.9-liter inline-six was recently overhauled and is fitted with dual SU carburetors.

That means it would burn rubber right past the Alfa Romeo, though the intended use of both convertibles is largely the same. And the emphasis on wood grain continues, as the shaped dashboard, steering wheel, and shift knob are made of a few shades of darkened wood. Plus it's got a new seatbelt.

Much cooler than any E30 (coming from the mouth of an E30 owner), this 3.0CS is a testament to one of the best eras of BMW design. And it's powered by one of BMW's sturdiest engines ever, the 3.0-liter M30 inline-six, with its torquey mid-range and 7000-rpm redline.

Delivered new in Baikal Blue, the interior features a beautiful coffee-and-cream-colored leather and a Nardi steering wheel. Most important, of course, is the fact that it retains its entire OEM BMW toolkit.

It's not just European classics going up for auction. Built on an already-legendary C6 Corvette ZR1 platform, this 2012 model is a 206 Centennial Special Edition, marking the 100th anniversary of Corvette.

As such, it's got a Carbon Flash Metallic paint job as well as a microsuede-wrapped steering wheel and a series of special badging. Best of all, it's powered by a supercharged and intercooled 6.2-liter LS9 V8 making 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque.

The Jaguar F-Type held a special place in our hearts for a long time, as it snarled and crackled about. But it's not so popular in modern days, as sports cars get sharper and lighter. Even so, this example might be well worth its $115,000 current bid.

That's because the baby blue model is one of 250 F-Type Project 7 models produced, being one of 50 in the US. A carbon-fiber front splitter, rear diffuser, and rear wing as well as 20-inch wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, and an active exhaust system make up some of the unique changes to this 5.0-liter V8 special edition.

The E36 M3 is a classic silhouette with an even more classic set of inline-six powertrains. This particular example is as good as it gets, sporting an S52 3.2-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Bonus: a Bright Red exterior over a Modena Nappa leather interior.

With 240 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, it's no speed demon, but the point of the E36 M3 is balanced handling. And finding one as stock as this is becoming increasingly hard, hence the $33,000 sale price.

1984 Lamborghini Jalpa

If your family owned a Lamborghini Jalpa, would you be so inclined to sell it? Whatever your answer may be, Bring a Trailer has found one family that is selling its 50-year-held Jalpa model, and it is expectably in fantastic shape.

With 410 examples produced between 1981 and 1988, this specific model has 25,000 miles on the clock. Designed by Bertone and powered by a mid-mounted 3.5-liter V8 mated to a five-speed manual transaxle, the Jalpa is a testament to old-school Italian performance.

1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SE Cabriolet

Classy as can be, this Mercedes-Benz 250SE Cabriolet is what I would personally want to drive down Highway 1 year-round. Powered by a 2.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, making it to your destination isn't about speed but rather smoothness in the period correct drop-top.

Havana Brown paint coats the exterior while a set of white-wall Coker Classic tires keep it all rolling. And the earth tone theme continues on inside, with a set of tan leather seats and wood grain dash installed from the factory.

The Volkswagen Beetle is so old that it comes in a variety of classic forms now. From dune buggies to stance builds, the classic German shape is forever iconic, and some collectors are making the best out of that.

This particular example has been owned by the same person for 30 years, with various modifications in that time. Namely, the car went from Polar Silver to this custom metallic green.

Additionally, the interior was reupholstered by Dave Lumetta of Sun Valley, California, in dark green leatherette with cream piping.

It wouldn't be a classic car list nor Monterey Car Week if we didn't mention some stuffy Porsche classics. And this 1987 unit is the be-all-end-all sort of collector's edition, with a 3.2-liter flat-six paired with a G50 five-speed manual transaxle.

It's nearly all stock inside and out with a silver interior featuring cruise control, air conditioning, a power-adjustable driver's seat, power windows and locks, and a Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 cassette stereo. A 3.2-liter flat-six puts the power down to the rear wheels.
