People get passionate about a huge variety of things. Washing cars is no exception. And, it should come as no surprise, that if washing cars is your passion, it goes way deeper than a bucket of soapy water and a sponge. YouTuber AMMO NYC goes into great detail and breaks down how to wash your car at home in 15 steps. And to give you a sense of his level of detail, he has a filtration system installed on his hose water to avoid water spots.

AMMO NYC is also showcasing his own AMMO products, but aside from that he offers a lot of details tips and tricks he uses that make intuitive sense. We also linked to a few of the products he suggests everyone use below.

Some of the steps clearly show that he takes washing cars very, very seriously. Others include good, sound and practical advice that will make your car-washing experience more rewarding. My personal favorite that I’m looking forward to trying myself is his technique for washing windows.

AMMO NYC Car Washing Tips:

  1. Prepare three buckets before any water ever touches the car: Wheels, Wash, and Rinse. Use Grid Guard inserts to ensure you're not rubbing grit all over your painted or glass finishes.
  2. If you choose to wash the engine bay, do this before washing the car body itself. Avoid soaking any part of the engine with water. Be sure to remove by hand any leaves or debris stuck in the HVAC vents or hinges before washing. Remember, you're not scrubbing the engine—you're just cleansing it.
  3. When washing your wheels, don't spray all four wheels with cleaner, then wash them one at a time. Instead, wash and rinse each wheel completely, then move on to the next. Wheel cleaner overspray can damage sensitive parts and finishes; avoid spraying the rotors. If you'd like, you can use your wheel bucket to wash and clean your exhaust tips, too.
  4. When washing the car body, start at the top and work your way down and around. Avoid severe downward pressure at all times; let the sponge or rag do the work. Don't let soap dry on the paint finish; rinse and dry as soon as possible.
